I’m inquiring for our client, Ecobiz. Some icons on the maps are broken. It seems it may be the icon for multiple locations, because as you zoom in, the icons appear. Can you tell me how to resolve this?

last week I released a new version for GEO my WP ( version 2.6.5 ) which should take care of this issue. Have you updated your plugin already?May 31, 2016 at 1:47 pm #52507
I realized that the license for our client has expired. I’ve emailed them to renew the license, so once they do that, I can update the plugin. Thanks for the quick response!May 31, 2016 at 1:50 pm #52508
You are welcome Christine. But the clusters icons issue is related to GEO my WP ( the free plugin ) and not the Premium Settings add-on. So please make sure that you or the client has updated GEO my WP to version 2.6.5 which should take care of the clusters issue.May 31, 2016 at 2:00 pm #52509
Oh, that is odd. I don’t see any notice on the plugins page that says the GEO my WP plugin has an update. We are on version 2.5. Is there any reason why I wouldn’t see an update notice? I can manually update by downloading the new version from your site and manually replacing via FTP. Do you forsee any issues in doing that? Will any settings be lost with existing maps?May 31, 2016 at 2:37 pm #52510
GEO my WP hosted on WordPress.org and not tempform.wpengine.com so I am not sure why you don’t see the “New updated available” message.
Basically, you should be able to update the plugin manually by downloading the new version from WordPress.org. However, there were a few updates since version 2.5 including one major update; version 2.6.1 which you can read about here. Now, Because of the major update, my advice to you is to follow a few steps to make sure everything will go smooth.
1) Make a backup of the current version installed on your site. One reason is in case that a custom work was done directly in the plugin’s files by possibly a previous developer. Modifying core plugin’s file is not recommended but if that is the case you want to make sure you don’t lose any work done on the plugin. If indeed there was a previous developer you should contact him/her and ask about any custom development that was done, not only directly in the plugin’s files, but in general. Maybe custom features that use hooks and were added to the functions.php file of the theme. I mention that since it does look like some work was done to modify and improve the look and functionality of the plugin on your site ( but I might be wrong ).
3) If possible and very recommended, create a development/staging site where you can update the plugin and make sure everything works properly before updating the live site.
4) I believe that after updating to GEO my WP 2.5 you will have to update to the latest version of the Premium Settings add-on to prevent incompatibility issues.
I hope that helps.

I’ve got a dev site and updated the basic Geo my WP plugin as well as renewed and updated the Premium Settings plugin. The cluster image is now working, however, on the home page map (http://ecobiz.subtextdev.com/), some icons are still not displaying. It seems like it’s the blue car icon that’s not showing on the home page global map. The setting for map icon on this map is “per post” and each post has the icon set correctly. However, if you go to the Automotive map (http://ecobiz.subtextdev.com/find-an-ecobiz/automotive/), the blue car icons do show. The setting for map icon on this map is “global” and the blue car is selected. It seems like there’s an issue with the home page map showing icons “per post”. Do you have any insight?

I sent some private content yesterday with an invoice and question on Global Maps renewal key missing. Did you receive/see it?
ChristineJune 3, 2016 at 10:37 pm #52607
No, I haven’t received anything from you. To which email did you sent it to?June 6, 2016 at 5:48 am #52630
I entered it in the private content portion of this form.
Our client renewed both Global Maps and Premium Settings but only has the key for the Premium Settings, and I’m wondering if the issue with the icons on the Global Map is because we don’t have a key to update and re-activate. The client username is: mfrister
Let me know if you need other info to help resolve the home page map icon issue. Thanks!June 6, 2016 at 10:00 am #52635This reply has been marked as private.June 8, 2016 at 9:14 am #52682
Thanks for fixing that glitch! I was able to update the plugin and add-ons. I realized that there was an issue with the default map icon, so I just removed it from our child theme and re-assigned all posts that had been set as the default icon. All icons are showing properly now! Thanks for your help.June 8, 2016 at 11:39 am #52688
