MemberHi,
I’ve purchased the XProfile addon and installed it via WP plugins admin.
I then went in to GMW addons admin and put in the license key and submitted it – the addon is now ‘green’ indicating the license accepted.
I then go in to GMW settings for the addon and try setting it up, but this is where I run in to a problem…
In the “Address Fields” setting, I have a choice of N/A and Name. I’m pretty sure I don’t want to overwrite the Name field. How do I add an address field? Do I need to install some other plugin to define the profile fields first (eg. to add a new address field to my profile)?

MemberThank you Guy for the purchase.
The add-ons works directly with BuddyPress Xprofile fields. You will need to create the Address field using BuddyPress profile fields first and then choose it using the add-on.April 30, 2014 at 10:04 pm #32816Guy Fraser
MemberOk, how do I do that? I don’t see any options in BP for configuring profile fields.
I’ve found some fields in WP for editing user profile fields, is it there that I add an address field?
If it’s in BP, then do I need some additional plugin to add a special address field type?
I’m using WP 3.8.3 and BP 2.0 btw.

MemberYou do not need an additional add-on. It is a basic feature of BuddyPress.
First go to WordPress menu “Settings” -> BuddyPress. Make sure that the top checkbook “Extended Profiles” is checked.
Then go to WordPress menu “Users” -> Profile fields. this is the page where you create the profile fieldsApril 30, 2014 at 10:17 pm #32814Guy Fraser
MemberOk, progress made – I’ve now added the address field, set up the addon config to use it and now I can enter my address when editing profile.
Two issues, first is minor CSS issue – for some reason there’s no background on the autocomplete popup. I can probably fix this myself, but just thought I’d flag it as a possible bug in the addon.
Second issue, I can’t work out how to get the location icon in the profile sections bar to display the map. In the addon description it states:
“Disable location form in the “Location” tab ( display map of user’s location instead ) to force users to modify their location using profile fields.”
So I’ve disabled the location tab, but it’s completely removed the tab and no map is being shown. How do I get the map to show in the “Location” tab?

Member1) I am working on an update of the add-on and so I am also improving the autocomplete.
2) The “Location” bar is hidden when displaying your own profile. However, when displaying Profile of another user you will see the map of his location.April 30, 2014 at 10:26 pm #32812Guy Fraser
Member2) It would be great if map is shown in location tab when viewing my own profile if that’s at all possible. That way I get visual confirmation that my address is working properly because I can see my own map. It also ensures consistency across all members – location tab always shows map, regardless of who I look at, except when someone hasn’t entered their location.

MemberAlso, it would be good if I could use both ‘address’ and also the split fields at the same time. So I can just type in ‘address’ field to get autocomplete, which then puts address in address field and also the various parts of address in to the split fields.
EDIT: This would provide some specific benefits in terms of privacy settings. I could set the ‘address’ field to be visible to just me, I could set the apt & street fields to be visible to friends, and I could set the town, state, country, etc., to be visible to everyone. If the map could then adapt to displaying info based on privacy settings, it would be very useful – it would mean that I could see my exact location, friends could see what street I’m on, and everyone else would just see what town I’m in.

MemberI now see map in location tab when viewing another members profile, however it’s fixed to 400x400px size via inline styles – would be good if it defaults to something like 100% width and 300px height, but defined via a stylesheet rather than inline so that I can further customise it with my own CSS.

MemberI will look into that. Most likely will add the option to set it via the settings page.

MemberOne last thing… On the location tab, is there a need for the “Location” heading? It seems to duplicate the name of the tab = redundant and just hogging space, especially on mobile devices…

MemberUhm, one more thing heh… Could the ‘get directions’ link be moved above the map to make it more obvious?
Address: <whatever> – Get Directions
or
Address: <whatever> (Get Directions)
But that’s only a minor thing. More than anything I desire the privacy settings stuff mentioned in the post edited earlier as that would be huge win for users. http://tempform.wpengine.com/support/forums/topic/xprofile-addon-not-working-properly/#post-11306

The address is already being split and saved in the database. That is how the plugin gets the address fielda that you want to display. So even if you save the full address each of the address components is being saved in database and you can choose which to display via the settings.

Make sense. I will probably remove it in the next update of GEO my WP

This will not be possible without modifying the plugin’s file at the moment.

MemberI tried using both an address field and also the split fields (street, town, etc) but ran in to some problems (see attached image).
1. The address field no longer auto-completes while typing
2. Even after saving the new address, the split fields don’t get populated.
The reason I want to do this is to allow end-users to have granular control over (permissions) what information they show to other users, for example:
* My house number / apt – only me
* My street – friends
* My town, province, country – everyone
* My postal / ZIP code – friendsAnd I want them to be able to more easily enter their address (main ‘address’ field) in a manner that reduces input error. So as they enter address, the split fields would update so they can see exactly what bits of their address will be stored and who will see them.

MemberThe plugin is not meant to work this way. It suppose to work with either Single or multiple address fields.
However, you can try this:
1) In the settings page of the plugin set the radio button to multiple address fields, choose your fields and update the settings.
2) after page loaded set the radio button to single address field, set your field and update settings. Then your autocomplete field should work since it is set to single address field and after location is being update using the single address field all the other fields should be updated as well.
